At first the Sycamores seem mad, but it is not long before we realize that if they are mad, the rest of the world is madder. In contrast to these delightful people are the unhappy Kirbys whose attractive young son, Tony, falls in love with Alice Sycamore. After meeting her family they are adamant that a marriage between Tony and Alice is out of the question. But Tony refuses to give her up, despite a visit by an ex-Grand Duchess, who earns her living as a waitress, the manufacturing of fireworks going on in the Sycamore’s basement, the printing press set up in the parlor; and Grandpa’s epic interview with the tax collector. It is up to Tony to open his family’s eyes to the world of possibilities that the Sycamores have already discovered. The question is can he do it in time?
