Overview

The Latin American Coalition’s signature Caribbean celebration, ¡AZÚCAR!, returns to Neighborhood Theatre with a night full of music, dance, food, and much more!

¡AZÚCAR! celebrates its 5th anniversary with the vibrant fusion of Cuban salsa and son from the Brooklyn-based group Ola Fresca and the high-energy bachata and merengue by Charlotte’s very own Bachata Flow. Rumbao Latin Dance Company will host free salsa lessons as soon as doors open at 7:00 p.m., and then later perform their sultry dance moves for all to enjoy. There will also be a dance competition for those with more moves, a domino tournament for all, and delicious Cuban food!

Brooklyn’s award winning  Ola Fresca will headline this year’s Azúcar Festival. With its fresh Brooklyn style, Ola Fresca performs an original repertoire that weaves through a spectrum of Latin styles from Cuban son, and salsa dura, to timba and funk -- a fusion that will bring everyone to their feet. The show in Charlotte will feature music from the band’s upcoming  3rd studio album, ELIXIR. Charlotte’s very own, Bachata Flow, will also take the stage with their high-energy performances of bachata and merengue to make sure you continue to dance the night away. Rumbao Latin Dance Company will host FREE Salsa classes before the show begins and then perform their sultry choreography for the crowd.
The Azúcar favorites, Dance and Domino competitions return as well! Compete in the dance competition with a friend or grab that person you’ve been too afraid to talk to and let music work its magic. Join in on the domino competition with a friend or compete against them!
Get ready for the best Caribbean celebration outside of the islands, right here in Charlotte!
