Overview

The most anticipated show of the year! The award winning comedy Birds of a Feather arrives to Charlotte based on the true story of the nationwide controversy caused by gay penguins in the Central Park Zoo.  The hysterical play tells the story of the two gay penguins Roy and Silo who partnered, adopted an egg, hatched and raised a chick together in the heart of the Big Apple. In 2005 they were the subject of the widely banned children's book “And Tango Makes Three”, pulled from schools and libraries bookshelves becoming one of the most banned books in the U.S.

Come meet the birds that quickly became news and world-wide sensations inspiring crazy bird brained behavior in the humans their story touches. Together with a pair of hawks and an outrageous parade of characters that include Paula Zahn, Richard Cohen, an eccentric birder and a traditional zookeeper, the show promises not to disappoint Charlotte audiences. Their book may have been banned, but Roy and Silo will make you laugh out loud.

Winner of the 2012 Helen Hays Award for Best New Play.
