Overview

boy named banjo Based out of Nashville, TN, Boy named banjo is a roots rock band. Barton Davies - vocals, banjo, guitar; William Reames - vocals, guitar, harmonica; Willard Logan - vocals, acoustic & electric guitar, mandolin; Sam McCullough - Vocals, drums, Percussion; Abraham Scott - Vocals, bass; In the spring of 2010, Barton Davies and William Reames were sixteen-year-olds, struggling to pay attention during an afternoon literature class at their high school. Distracted by videos of various bluegrass groups, Davies, having just picked up the banjo, and Reames, an already impressive acoustic guitar player, planned a jam session in the back of Reames’ pickup truck after class the following day. Little did they know, this casual jam would mark the beginning of a strong friendship and embed the musical foundation for Boy Named Banjo. Seeking an original folk sound, Davies and Reames asked longtime friend and talented guitarist, Willard Logan, to join them. In 2011, Boy Named Banjo was formed. Inspired by personal relationships, experiences with nature, literature, and trips to the Buffalo River, the songs from the group’s debut album,The Tanglewood Sessions, demanded attention. While these songs were rough around the edges, listeners immediately recognized the talent of these 18-year-old musicians and described them as, “musically and lyrically gifted beyond their years”. Since the release of its first album in 2012, Boy Named Banjo has elevated its sound and its live performances considerably with the addition of drummer Sam McCullough and bass player Abe Scott; Logan cleaned the sound up with the introduction of his smooth and tasteful electric guitar playing, as well. Their second album, Long Story Short, consists of a dozen quality songs and displays much stronger musicianship in just about every area. Over the course of its Long Story Shorttour, Boy Named Banjo sold out historic venues around the Southeast, including Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta and The Basement in Nashville. Supported by a large following of loyal and enthusiastic fans from all over the country, Boy Named Banjo won the Sonicbids’ “Battle of the Bracket” tournament and earned a slot to play on stage at Bonnaroo in 2015! BNB is on the rise!
