Join us for a lunchtime presentation as Lawrence Toppman, arts and entertainment writer for The Charlotte Observer, introduces the Tony Award winning musical NEWSIES and provides insight into the Newsboy Strike of 1899 on which the musical is based. Introduced to audiences as a beloved Disney movie in 1992, this musical tells the story of the young boys who sold newspapers in New York City in the 1890's. Toppman will discuss the newspaper industry and will explain the importance of the 1899 Strike!
