Overview

Having Our Say: A Conversation With The Delany Sisters is an adaptation of the Broadway play depicting a conversation with two African American sisters about their experiences with racism and sexism in their quest to become career women in the early 1900s. The conversation chronicles their well lived and privileged early childhood and the trials and tribulations they faced as first generation post-slavery women.

Born in North Carolina, the sisters felt that the legislation of the Jim Crow South were too restrictive and eventually moved to Harlem in New York City to advance their education and career. The sisters became successful career women and civil rights pioneer in their own rights. The two person cast features Lillie Ann Oden, a Charlotte actress who will play the role of Bessie Delany and Corlis Hayes, Ph.D., Arts and Communication Faculty, Central Piedmont Community College who will play the role of older sister Sadie Delany. Corlis Hayes will also direct the play.

Inspired by a true story, Having Our Say: A Conversation With The Delany Sisters is a story of sisterhood, struggle and triumph, and a life of longevity and accomplishment. Come join the National Coalition of 100 Black Women to celebrate these great women who have impacted our society!
