Overview
The exuberant and rarely heard 1819 Overture to “Los Esclaves Felices” by Juan de Arriaga (considered the Spanish Mozart) jubilantly opens the USO Tenth Anniversary Finale concert. The beautiful and gracious Jessica Mathaes will then perform Piotr Tchaikovsky’s celebrated Violin Concerto – the dazzling and best-loved concerto of all time. The program concludes with the “New World Symphony" by celebrated Czech composer Antonin DvoĆák. Written in 1893 in New York, the familiar and tuneful symphony was the origin of the folk song, “Goin’ Home,” and inspired generations of concert and cinema composers. Neil Armstrong took a recording of the "New World Symphony" to the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission.
