After three years of highly acclaimed sold-out performances, Charlotte’s Jazz Arts Initiative’s (JAI) monthly series—The Jazz Room @ The Stage Door Theater – presents a special tribute to Cannonball Adderley, featuring Will Campbell. The Stage Door Theater is part of Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, at the corner of 5th and College in Uptown Charlotte.

Jazz musician Cannonball Adderley was born Julian Edwin Adderley in Tampa, Florida, on September 15, 1928. He attended the U.S. Navy School of Music before moving to New York City in the 1950s. Adderley idolized Charlie Parker, and was very well known for playing with Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Adderley had a unique style, and he was loved by many for his upbeat music. Cannonball Adderley put out several albums during his time including Know What I Mean? (1961) and The Soul Zodiac (1972). He died on August 8, 1975.
