Overview

Blumenthal Performing Arts' monthly Poetry Slams are hosted by SlamCharlotte, Charlotte’s own two time national championship team of spoken word poetry (2007 & 2008). SlamCharlotte strives to promote poetic growth, performance enhancement, and increased camaraderie among the poets and the community through the monthly slam competitions.

Featured artist: Adán Bean

Adán Bean never refers to himself in 3rd person except when he’s writing his bio.

When Adán Bean is not trying to keep the Check Engine light off in his Honda Civic, he’s somewhere fulfilling his duties as an accomplished writer, emcee and spoken word poet. He hails from the small town of Massillon, OH but has called Atlanta home for almost 10 years. He was also a member of the 2015 Java Monkey Slam Team which placed in 17th in the nation in the 2015 National Poetry Slam in August. One half of the retro-progressive hip hop group The Remnant, Adán has released 3 projects with the outfit: After School Special, PB&J and Indian Summer as well as toured the country extensively bringing the music to the masses. He is currently working on his first solo project (Untitled) and released the first single “I Think I’ll Sit This One Out (Step Back)”. In addition to writing, recording and performing music, he co-runs the website ForthDistrict.com which focuses on high art and conscious culture. As well as a SEM copywriter by day, Adán Bean can be found on stages across the country sharing his prose, poetry and music.
