This Month's Featured Artist: Rika Pesos

Rika Pesos is a writer, poet, lecturer and emcee and host from Richmond, Virginia. 

Born Sharika Comfort, she began writing at the tender age of 8. 

After competing as an emcee in multiple talent competitions throughout Richmond, in 2006 at the age of 16, Rika placed second in SlamRichmond’s poetry competition; at that time the youngest to do so.

In 2012, she was one of four writers chosen nationwide to present original poetry in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Sigma Tau Delta National English Honor Society annual conference. Rika has shared a stage with several notable poets and emcees, including Fabolous, Roscoe Dash, Wale, A Poet named Superman and more. 

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Johnson C. Smith University and a Master of Arts degree in English and African American Literature from North Carolina A&T. 

Currently, she is working on a book titled Quarter-Life Consciousness: A Poetic Memoir and an independent audio compilation titled Private Conversations. 

She also runs an independent media and entertainment company, Unrivaled Media & Entertainment.
