This Month's Featured Artist: Joan ‘Lyric’ Leslie
Joan ‘Lyric’ Leslie is a Harlem native whose work focuses on the black female’s journey to self-discovery and self-love while incorporating a fair share of humor and wit.
She will take you on a journey through politics, tragedy, and the reclamation of black joy through it all. Lyric is former member of Dartmouth College’s Soul Scribes and B.O.B.R. Jax Slam teams and now lives in Atlanta, where she performs regularly at the Art Amok and Java Monkey Slam venues.
Most recently, Lyric won the 2017 Queen of the South Poetry Slam title in Greenville, SC and represented Atlanta’s Art Amok Slam Team at the 2017 Women of the World Poetry Slam in Dallas, TX.
Her poetry is and has always been as black as woman, searching, hoping, wishing, and praying to leave answers on the same stages where she found them.
