Overview

On Friday May 30 and Saturday May 31 Piedmont Talent presents the inaugural “Hechtfest: The Steve Hecht Memorial Weekend Concerts” at The Double Door Inn, a benefit for the Blue Star Connection and a celebration of the life of booking agency founder Steve Hecht.    The program spotlights artists who have collaborated with Hecht during his decades-long tenure in the music business.  Featured on Friday night are Mississippi natives Homemade Jamz Blues Band and Eden Brent. On Saturday night, local trio Window Unit warms the stage for Smokin Joe Kubek with Bnois King and special guest Eddy “The Chief” Clearwater. Unannounced special guests are also expected.  Steve Hecht moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and founded Piedmont Talent in 1989. In the years that followed he partnered with an impressive list of clients, booking events worldwide and advancing the careers of hundreds of working musicians. He served two terms on the Blues Foundation Board of Directors and was twice awarded a “Keeping the Blues Alive Award.”  Battling a rare form of blood cancer, Hecht continued working until his final days and passed in May of 2013. The Hecht family and Piedmont Talent staff pledged to continue building on Steve’s legacy and most of the client base stayed, too. One year later, the company still delivers talent to a global audience with an even greater commitment to recruitment, expansion and modernization.  Since 2005, event beneficiary Blue Star Connection has provided access and ownership of musical instruments to children and young adults with cancer and other serious challenges.  To date they have reached hundreds of kids and have donated musical gear to over 25 Children’s Hospital Music Therapy programs. “HechtFest” organizers hope to raise funds and awareness for the charity with this event.
