Overview
Beverly Penninger and Alyson Young, of Naka Productions, Inc., a Charlotte, NC based video production company, are pleased to announce the debut of their long-awaited feature length documentary, The Newport Effect. The film covers the history of the legendary Newport Folk Festival and its’ profound impact on the world of folk music and social activism. Infamous as the place where Bob Dylan “went electric” in 1965, the reach of the festival goes far beyond that iconic moment.
Includes interviews with Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Judy Collins, The Indigo Girls, Peter Yarrow, Theo BIkel, Bernice Johnson Reagon and more. Plus, contemporary performances and archival film footage from the 60's. Narrated by Joan Armatrading and featuring segment narrations by Rosanne Cash, Michael Doucet, Steve Earle, Angelique Kidjo, Pokey LaFarge, Tom Morello, Mavis Staples and Lucinda Williams, all artists who have played the Newport Folk Festival.
The evening will include a special pre-show performance by Carolina Gator Gumbo, plus a post screening Q&A with the filmmakers and Bob Jones, producer emeritus of the Newport Folk Festival.
