Overview

One of the most acclaimed new plays in recent years comes to Charlotte after mesmerizing audiences in both the West End and New York City. THE PRIDE, by Alexi Kaye Campbell, is a groundbreaking play that alternates between 1958 and 2008, featuring three individuals in parallel times, both, past and present, living similar yet radically different lives. Examining changing attitudes toward sexuality over a period of fifty years, The Pride is an exploration of intimacy, identity, and the courage it takes to be who you really are. As it explores fate, love, fidelity and forgiveness, the show asks questions about contemporary life (gay and straight), but doesn’t presume to answer any of them concretely. Past and present worlds grind together and melt apart, yet the future and its promise of sexual liberation remains ever elusive.

Winner of the 2009 Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement after its successful run at Royal Court Theatre in London.

"An illuminating, moving night of theatre." —Time Out London.
