Overview

Are you a high school student ready to relaunch your triple-threat training in a safe, fast-paced workshop environment? Join Blumenthal Performing Arts and an array of professional artists for a full-day musical theater intensive. Intermediate and advanced 8th-12th grade theater students will receive exclusive instruction from guest artists who know first-hand what it takes to make it in the world of Broadway, including Danielle Wade (Mean Girls Broadway & First National Tour), Will Branner (Mean Girls First National Tour), Amina Faye (Jimmy Awards Best Actress 2016), Martin Damien Wilkins (Angels in America: Parts 1 & 2, Actor's Express) and Tyler McKenzie (Hamilton). The day will culminate in a musical theater showcase.

Space is limited. This event is for intermediate and advanced theater students in 8th-12th grade.

About the Teaching Artists

Danielle Wade

Danielle Wade (Broadway Alum) has performed across both the US and Canada. She most recently can be seen as Cady in Mean Girls (Broadway and National Tour.) She had her start on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s search for Dorothy on CBC's Over The Rainbow. Some favorite credits include Marian Paroo (The Music Man, Stratford Festival) and Belle (Beauty and The Beast), Cinderella (Into The Woods) Bailey Butterfly (CBC's The Moblees) and Dear Evan Hansen in Toronto.

Will Branner

Will is a New York based actor born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. New York/Tours: Bat Out Of Hell (New York City Center, Toronto, Original North American Company), Mean Girls (1st National Tour), Kragtar: An American Monster Musical (Off- Broadway, Original Cast). Regional: The Old Globe (October Sky), Barrington Stage (West Side Story, BTCA nomination), 5th Avenue Theatre (West Side Story), PCLO, Music Theatre Wichita, Adirondack Theatre Festival, Triad Stage. Will is also a theatre and film director hoping to bring his work to North Carolina. His last film SCHMIK premiered at the Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles as a part of HollyShorts Film Festival. Amina Faye

Amina is a recent grad of Penn State where she received her B.F.A in Musical Theatre and is currently working as a freelance teaching artist and director. Her favorite credits include Sarah in Ragtime and Caroline in Caroline Or Change. She was most recently seen as Susannah Son in the regional premiere of Love In Hate Nation written by Tony Award nominee Joe Iconis. Blumenthal Performing Arts holds a special place in her heart ever since winning Best Actress at both the Blumey Awards and the Jimmy Awards back in 2016. 

Martin Damien Wilkins

Martin Damien Wilkins is an award-winning stage director and producer based in Charlotte, NC. His directing credits include Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Angels in America (Parts 1 and 2), which he co-directed with Artistic Director Freddie Ashley and Suzan-Lori Park’s Father Comes Home From The Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3) at Actor’s Express, and Lynn Nottage’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Sweat, at the Warehouse Theatre in Greenville, SC. Martin was the recipient of the 2018 Suzi Bass Award for Outstanding Direction of a Play with Freddie Ashley for their production of Angels in America. Additional honors include Outstanding Production, Outstanding Ensemble, and Outstanding Lighting of a Play, as well as, a feature in a special edition of the national publication, American Theatre Magazine, in March 2018. Martin is a proud member of the inaugural class of National Directors Fellows and an Associate Member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. He also served for two seasons as the National New Play Network’s Producer-In-Residence at Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte. A native Charlottean, Martin is a graduate of Duke University where he was a Benjamin N. Duke Memorial Scholar.

Tyler McKenzie

Tyler McKenzie (he/him/his) currently on dance faculty at Penn State University’s Musical Theatre Department, was last seen on stage in Hamilton the Musical. He is a Long Island native with a BFA in Musical Theatre from Western Carolina University. He has performed regionally and in the Broadway & National Tour productions of Mamma Mia, Matilda, and Hamilton. In 2019, Tyler received the Western Carolina University Young Alumni Award celebrating his level of distinction in his field of work, his commitment to the service of others, and his potential for future leadership/distinction. He also recently received honorary acknowledgement and membership from the National Society of Leadership and Success. Tyler has a major passion for education and has worked with young artists all over the country and online.
