Overview
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, PaperHouse Theatre returns to Spirit Square with a modern take on Molière's classic farce THE SCHOOL FOR WIVES. Fans of last season’s seductively funny production of La Ronde will be in for a treat with this uproarious comedy, onstage February 12-22 at Spirit Square’s Duke Energy Theatre.
Who is schooling who?
Rich, middle-aged Arnolphe plans to avoid the pitfalls of love and marriage by teaching his own intended bride how to be the perfect wife… But when unexpected competition for the young lady’s affection appears, it will be the teacher who gets schooled in love.
Come see this modern adaptation of Molière’s acclaimed comedy, which deals brilliantly with themes of love, infidelity, and a hilariously misplaced sense of the role of women in marriage.
About the Show
The School for Wives premiered in 1662 (with the playwright himself in the role of Arnolphe), earning Molière his first big hit. Later plays such as Tartuffe, The Imaginary Invalid and The Misanthrope would secure Molière’s place among the greatest dramatists of all time.
With intimate, in-the-round staging by PaperHouse’s Artistic Director Nicia Carla, and starring a fabulous ensemble of local actors including Joe Copley, Jennie Greenfield, Andrea King, Alexandria Lee, and Philip Robertson, The School for Wives promises to be an evening of unadulterated delight.
