SPECIAL EDITION – JAZZ ROOM: Jeremy Davenport sings FRANK SINATRA

After much-acclaim and sold-out performances, Charlotte’s Jazz Arts Initiative’s (JAI) monthly series—The Jazz Room @ The Stage Door Theater – wraps up season 10 on March 16 & 17 as trumpeter/vocalist Jeremy Davenport pays a special musical tribute to the great FRANK SINATRA. The Stage Door Theater is part of Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, at the corner of 5th and College in Uptown Charlotte.

Frank Sinatra was an icon of 20th Century entertainment whose sixty-year career encompassed music, movies, and television. He started as a swing-era vocalist with bandleader Tommy Dorsey, and as a solo artist went on to released seventy albums and hundreds of singles. “Throughout my career, if I have done anything, I have paid attention to every note and every word I sing – if I respect the song. If I cannot project this to a listener, I fail.” – Frank Sinatra.

For over a decade, Jeremy Davenport has been a vital part of the New Orleans music scene. Davenport’s talent has tempted such performers as Sting, Paul McCartney, Harry Connick Jr. and Diana Krall. A St. Louis, Missouri native, Davenport attended the Manhattan School of Music. He caught the ear of Wynton Marsalis who introduced Davenport to Connick. Together they persuaded Jeremy to move to New Orleans. He enrolled at the University of New Orleans and began training under the patriarch of the Marsalis family, Ellis Marsalis – music educator and jazz pianist. Jeremy went on to play with Connick’s Big Band for six years touring around the world.
